American Civil Liberties Union
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) defends the rights and liberties of every citizen according to the U.S. Constitution. The ACLU works to defend those who are oppressed or discriminated against including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender so they can enjoy equal rights. This organization makes progress within the court system defending and advocating for LGBT rights. The ACLU provides a resource page noting state and local laws that protect discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace.
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) enforces laws that protect against employment discrimination. The EEOC considers discrimination based on sex to include sexual orientation and gender identity. If you are being discriminated against at your workplace or fired from your job you can fill out a complaint with the EEOC. EEOC provides resources to let you know what your options are as well as provide training to businesses about LGBT discrimination.
Human Rights Campaign
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is an organization that is solely dedicated to advocating for LGBT rights. HRC provides communications and trainings to companies to promote equality policies in the workplace. HRC also provides personal stories and updates in the fight for equal rights in employment. This organization lobbies legislators to pass inclusive nondiscrimination laws for protections in the workplace.
PROMO is the leading organization advocating for LGBT rights in Missouri. PROMO’s goals are to educate lawmakers on the issues facing LGBT individuals and to also build community awareness surrounding these issues. PROMO provides complete information on which cities and counties in Missouri have nondiscrimination ordinances in employment. PROMO is currently working with businesses to pass a Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA) , which would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
